Join us every Monday as internationally acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Kellen Hatanaka takes Flight students on a creative exploration of colour and canvas.

Studio Explorers (Session 1)

PRIMARY
Grades 1 - 3

September 16 - October 28, 2024 (6 weeks)
Mondays 4:00-5:00pm

No Class Thanksgiving Monday

In this class young artists will be encouraged to find new and creative ways to utilize an assortment of artistic mediums. Students will be introduced to a variety of art making practices designed to allow their creativity to flourish.

We will introduce the students to many exciting contemporary artists working today to inspire the students to find their own voice through open-ended creative exploration.

Session Tuition: $165 + HST (includes all art supplies)

Studio Practice: How to be an Artist (Session 1)

JUNIOR
Grades 4 - 7

This course will introduce students to the studio practice of professional artists. With a focus on drawing and painting students will be encouraged to find their artistic point of view working on drawings and studies in the early classes and culminating in a final work on canvas.

Students will be introduced to relevant historical and contemporary art figures in each class to inspire their work and help them find their new artistic heroes.

Session Tuition: $235 + HST (includes all art supplies)

Kellen Hatanaka

Kellen Hatanaka (b. 1987, Toronto, Canada) is a multidisciplinary artist who makes vibrant, figurative paintings and drawings that celebrate sport, design, history, and culture. 

Hatanaka’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and has been featured in publications including Victory Journal, ArtMaze Magazine, and Graphite Journal. 

He has collaborated with clients such as Nike, Reebok, Casper, The Polaris Music Prize, Apple Music and The Toronto Blue Jays.

Hatanaka and collaborator Jon-Erik Lappano received the Governor General's Award for their book Tokyo Digs a Garden (2016). He is currently based in Stratford, Ontario, Canada.
